сумасшедший, спятивший; не в своём уме; совсем ума лишился [в выражении mad as a March hare намекается на возбуждённое состояние животных в период весеннего спаривания; считалось, что от ртути, употреблявшейся для обработки фетра, шляпники лишались рассудка, отсюда выражение as mad as a hatter. Оба выражения популяризированы Л. Кэроллом в книге "Алиса в стране чудес"]Proserpine: "...He's mad." Burgess: "Mad! What!.." Proserpine: "Mad as a March hare. He did frighten me." (B. Shaw, ‘Candida’, act II) — Прозерпина: "...Он не в своем уме." Берджес: "Не в своем уме! Как, и он тоже..?" Прозерпина: "Просто одержимый. Он так напугал меня..."
